For the applicant at the JATE's RADIO TEST

To Applicant of Certification with the JATE's RADIO TEST

We are accepting tests for acquiring Radio Law Certification for specific radio equipment. Please understand the following points in carrying out the test.
  1. Handling of test equipment
It is possible to accept samples of equipment from overseas factories or manufacturers. However, JATE can not be returned to overseas because it does not carry out operation of export control. Please set the location in Japan where samples can be returned. There is also an option to discard the sample after the test.
  2. Anechoic chamber
JATE does not have an anechoic chamber. Equipment with the un-removable antenna can not be tested. If you submit test result documents, examination for certification is possible. If you apply for the test at JATE, the test will be held at other laboratories. Test fee will be added and test period will increase.
  3. Connection to measuring instrument
Testing with JATE is possible even with antenna integrated equipment, if cut the circuit-board pattern and the leader cable is attached by soldering. As for the case where the antenna can be disconnected with the connector, JATE provides measuring instruments and connecting cables with BNC, N, SMA type radio frequency connectors. If you are using an small connector directly attached to the board, please prepare a conversion connector or cable to BNC, N, SMA type, or attach a leader with a connector such as SMA type.
When testing with JATE, antenna specifications etc. indicating gain and pattern are required. Also please let us know the loss on the conversion cable or the leader cable.
  4. Specification of radio equipment
Please inform us the type of radio waves: transmission frequencies and power, modulation methods. Each modulation methods are basically to be tested. We need to know the specifications of equipment before testing. In addition, details of the anntena gain, function to prevent interference, supply voltage, etc. may be required. When selling equipment in the United States, the equipment is certified by The Federal Communications Commission: FCC. The FCC advertises data on certified equipment. If the specifications of the equipment are unknown, please inform us the FCC's registration number etc.
Even if the equipment has obtained FCC certification, it does not mean that the equipment conforms to the Radio Act of Japan.
  5. Test mode or Test software of equipment
In the case of equipment that can use three or more frequency channels, both ends and the center channel are tested. The equipment with that automatically switches channels cannot be tested. Please prepare equipment that operates in test mode or test software. In the test mode, switching between modulation and non-modulation (continuous transmission is also required) and setting to the reception state are required in addition to channel switching. For the equipment with adaptive modulation methods, it is required to fix to one of modulation methods. Since the interference prevention function test is conducted in normal operation mode, on-board software for commercial use is also required.
In the case of equipment that is certified by FCC or CE, the factory probably has equipment for testing used for radio test, so we encourage you to contact the factory.
  6. Stabilization of power supply voltage of RF circuit
Tests of specific radio equipment have test items for examining characteristic changes when the supply voltage changes by +/- 10%. If the voltage of the RF circuit is stabilized to +/- 1% or less when the supply voltage fluctuates, these tests are omitted. The test period can be shortened. Please show me the documents of stabilizing function such as regulator IC data sheet etc. If the power supply using the battery does not have the stabilization function of +/- 1% or less, the maximum voltage of the battery and the end voltage are subject to the test, so please inform.
  7. Measurement of specific absorption rate
For mobile phones and tablets with transmission power of 20-milli-watt or more, specific absorption rate measurement is required. The test will be held at other laboratories just like the use of anechoic chamber, because JATE does not have SAR measuring instrument. Test fee will be added and test period will increase.
  8. Pseudo base station / pseudo control station
For cellular phone tests, a pseudo base station is required to specify the transmission channel and transmission power. For equipment that receive instructions from the control station and change the channel or modulation method, a pseudo control station is required. JATE does not have these pseudo base stations and pseudo control station. The cellular phone test will be conducted at other laboratories. When a pseudo control station is necessary, please provide pseudo control station together with application equipment.
When equipment can be tested in the test mode, pseudo stations are unnecessary. When conducting the interference prevention function test, please prepare the counterpart equipment if the counterpart equipment is necessary.
  9. Difference from US and European certification
FCC and CE certification and Japan Radio Act spurious regulations, etc. are different. The Radio Act requires measurements of spurious measurements in the neighborhood and in the band. Therefore, the FCC and CE test data will be insufficient and a test will be required.
  10. Frequency range for measuring spurious
The renge of ferquency for measuering spurious is basically 9 kHz to higher of 110 GHz or second hormonic. For the time being, follow the table below (Supplementary provision of 2005 Notice No. 1309 of MIC).

    Frequency rangelowerupper
9 kHz to 100 MHz or less 9 kHz 1 GHz
100 MHz to 300 MHz or less 9 kHz Tenth harmonic
300 MHz to 600 MHz or less 30 MHz 3 GHz
600 MHz to 5.2 GHz or less 30 MHz Fifth harmonic
5.2 GHz to 13 GHz or less 30 MHz 26 GHz
13 GHz to 150 GHz or less 30 MHz Second harmonic
150 GHz to 300 GHz or less 30 MHz 300 GHz
